Aims and Objectives
  1. The AKRPC has been envisaged as an apex body of local river protection councils for co-ordinating the activities. As such the main aim of the society is to take initiative and help in the formation of new local river protection councils(RPCs) which will mobilise the local people to protect rivers by all possible ways. The ultimate target is to have at least one RPC for each river.

  3. The Council also tries to activate those RPCs which are dormant and not actively working.

  5. To initiate and help in mass movements of people, whenever and whereever necessary, against pollution, or encroachment or any other measure which may prove destructive to the rivers.

  7. To launch statewide Educational Campaigns for every citizen, to inculcate in them the urgent need to protect the rivers.

  9. To prevent all kinds of pollution through the above educational efforts and other action programmes, as required.

  11. To form a core group of experts who can guide scientific study of rivers, by the respective protection councils, so as to identify the problems faced by each river.

  17. To persuade the Government -
    (a) to constitute independent River authorities for protecting the major rivers
    (b) to bringout comprehensive legislation to protect the rivers, as in the case of forests.
    (c) to form a special river protection police force, wherever necessary
    (d) to formulate and implement aforestation programmes in the catchment areas of rivers and along river bank
